To Peter Pan, Kye was the apple of his eye. He would give up anything for her—even if it meant sacrificing his own life.
Ethan gave Peter Pan a cursory glance. He knew that Peter Pan cherished Kye deeply, but there were things that were beyond Peter Pan’s understanding.
The scene shown on the water screen was a prophecy, which meant it was bound to happen. When the day comes, who will be there to protect Kye?
The grim answer was “no one.” It was not limited to Kye alone. When disaster struck, everyone could only fend for themselves, Ethan included. In the end, the evil within each person would take control of their being, thus creating a society of heartless creatures.
It would be a tragedy.
“Things are progressing beyond your imagination, and because of this change, we have to change as well,” Ethan stated ambiguously.
“What do you mean?” Peter Pan had a sense of foreboding. “What exactly do you mean? What happened when you were at the Heavenly Palace?” he prompted.
“We might have underestimated the Demon King’s power. He has been biding for time. We thought that he was waiting for Greedy Wolf, but I’m afraid that we were mistaken. It’s the twin iris that he’s aiming for.”
Ethan took a deep breath.
“So what? I don’t care what he has! If he hurts me or my loved ones, I’ll fight him!”
Peter Pan had always been a gutsy one.
He had a one-track mind, and that was to protect Kye, his precious disciple. Everything else could turn to dust for all he cared.
“Don’t get so worked up. When the day comes, it’ll be the end for all of us. How are you going to protect Kye? You’ll be in grave danger yourself. How would you keep her safe? You’ll have to at least be alive to do so!” Ethan countered.
Peter Pan calmed down slightly upon hearing his words.
“Tell me, then. What is it like now? What has gotten you so worried?”
This was Peter Pan’s first time seeing Ethan so dismayed. The person before him was unlike the Ethan he knew.
Hesitant, Ethan paced the area before meeting Peter Pan’s gaze.
“I want to use Kye as bait. We’ll trick the Greedy Wolf into appearing and deliver a fatal blow.”
“No way!” Peter Pan exploded instantly. His eyebrows furrowed, and his eyes bulged out of their sockets as he glared at Ethan. Use Kye as bait? Ethan must be insane!
“Hear me out—”
“Shut up! I don’t want to hear it! Ethan, do you even have a heart? You must be out of your f*cking mind to even suggest using your daughter as bait!” Peter Pan was furious. “I’m telling you that there’s no way you’re doing it. I will never agree to it, let alone anyone who cares for Kye!”
“If you so much as touch a hair on Kye’s head, I will kill you myself,” Peter Pan threatened with a menacing glint in his eyes. His words were more of a promise than a statement.
Use Kye as bait? What nonsense!
Even using himself as bait would not have evoked such rage from Peter Pan. Subjecting a young girl to such danger was simply inhumane.
“She’s my daughter. Do you actually think that I want to put her in danger?” Ethan roared, equally enraged. “This is how bad things have gotten. We have no other choice!”
“Greedy Wolf will stay in hiding until the Demon King’s souls revive completely. By then, it would have been too late. I’ve told you that the Demon King had been waiting for so many years for the Greedy Wolf’s twin iris. Once he obtains it, he can release all of his power into the world. With that power, he can elicit everyone’s dark side and make us submit to our own selfishness! When that happens, there’s no saving us. There would not be any kindness left in this world,” Ethan explained, exasperated.
“Protect Kye?” Ethan scoffed. “Chances are, when the day arrives, protecting Kye would be the last thing on your mind. On the contrary, you might very well be the one to hurt her.”
“Impossible!” Peter Pan was in denial, but his voice lacked the conviction he had earlier.
Wickedness was rooted in every person’s heart, and the Demon King had the power to magnify this evil. It would reach a point where everyone was driven by bad intent only and become creatures of sin.
Is it really that bad already?
